In Congress scrum, some Dems endorse but others stay mum

The decision by nearly all of the county Democratic committees in New York’s 19th Congressional District to stay out of the battle royale for the party’s nomination has set off a scramble by the seven Democratic hopefuls to nail down endorsements from individual elected and party officials across the sprawling 11-county district.

Ulster County’s decision to raise tobacco purchase age to 21 will decrease number of new smokers, advocates say

Ulster County last week became the latest New York local government to raise the age of tobacco sales from 18 to 21. The move comes after a 19-3 vote by the Ulster County legislature. The law, which goes into effect on New Year’s Day, covers all tobacco products — cigarettes, cigars, vape “juice” and snuff. The legislation also covers paraphernalia including pipes, rolling papers and hookahs.
