Village of New Paltz election is May 7

Village of New Paltz residents will get to choose among several candidates for trustee when they head over to the firehouse to vote on May 7, but the incumbent mayor faces no opposition this year. Tim Rogers is completing his first four-year term as mayor. Don Kerr and Dennis Young are also seeking second terms, as trustee, and voters will be measuring their accomplishment against the promises offered by Alexandra Wojcik and Michele Zipp.

While Saugerties organizers continue planning for the third annual Hope Rocks Festival this August, two new Hope Rocks events are planned for early next month: The Hope Rocks Hardball Invitational, a high school baseball tournament on May 4; and the Hope Rocks Grand Gala, a fundraising event on May 10 with a focus on the Hope Rocks mission: To “illuminate the darkness of addiction and suicide.”

Ryan vs. Hayes for Ulster County Executive on Tuesday

Voters will go to the polls next Tuesday, April 30 to choose a county executive for the remainder of 2019. Democrat and former 19th District congressional hopeful Patrick Ryan will face Ulster County Conservative Party Chairman Jack Hayes, running on the Republican line. The winner of the special election will fill the vacancy left when Mike Hein resigned in February to take a post in the administration of Governor Andrew Cuomo. Another election in November will choose a county executive for a full four-year term.
