At an emotional regular meeting of the New Paltz school board last Wednesday, June 19, the school board asked schools superintendent Maria Rice to suspend the involuntary teacher transfers she had instigated recently, pending school-board approval and mutually agreed-upon mediation between Rice and leadership of the New Paltz United Teachers (NPUT) union.
In February, after Kingston Republicans failed to find a nominee to challenge Mayor Steve Noble, it appeared that the incumbent Democrat might have a free ride to a second term. Four months later, Noble has gone from no opponents to three.

In the June 25 Democratic primary, 22nd district Ulster County Legislator Kathy Nolan won handily, polling 490 votes, or 82 percent, to John Parete’s 106 votes. The district covers Shandaken, Olive, Denning and Hardenburgh.
