As was said in an old movie once, it’s a dream for some and a nightmare for others — the 2019-20 school year is just around the corner, with students in the Kingston Central School District starting classes on Wednesday, Sept. 4.
As a result of the detail, over 100 pedestrians came into contact with officers, each receiving a pedestrian safety palm card which provided information specific to pedestrian obligations in the lawful use of crosswalks. Faced with the prospect of spending significantly more money fighting the case in court than capitulating will cost, the Ulster Town Board on Aug. 15 announced a settlement with Florida Samas Venture, Inc., to reduce the assessment on a property occupied by Home Depot from $6.91 million to $6.5 million.
Trucks can continue to come on and off Joe Karolys’ three construction and demolition debris dumping sites in Saugerties until at least September 11 after state Supreme Court Judge Richard Mott adjourned an August 22 hearing in which the town was seeking to overturn the Temporary Restraining Order that prevents it from enforcing stop work orders at the sites.
A pair of lawsuits have been filed against the town’s volunteer land use boards and building department in recent weeks, one seeking damages for an alleged jumbled process that resulted in clearcutting of trees and the installation of a highly reflective roof in Woodstock’s cherished scenic overlay district, and the other a “placeholder” involving ongoing planning controversies at the former site of the Woodstock Lodge, now owned by the international work/stay company Selina.
Some bureaucratic twists and turns slowed the process down, but New Paltz Village Planning Board members on August 20 approved the application to build a new Stewart’s at the corner of North Chestnut Street and Henry W. Dubois Drive.
