The project would take up around three acres off Frank Sottile Blvd. in the town of Ulster, with a building housing the equipment planned for between 30-40 feet in height. An exhaust stack would rise above the structure, less than 100-ft total in height.
With the assistance of housing not-for-profit Rupco, the Town of Saugerties has applied for a grant through the New York Affordable Housing Corporation to help homeowners with repairs to at least 20 single-family homes in the community at no cost to the town or village.
“We want to make people’s homes and lives more beautiful,” said interior designer Maria R. Mendoza, owner of Marigold Home.
The merger was over 60 years in the making.
Plans call for Central Hudson to replace a circa-1930’s underground natural gas regulator located underground with an above-ground apparatus in a vacant lot. Neighbors fear it will cause pollution and be an eyesore.
The plan to save Taliaferro Farms would involve a $387,000 payment from the town’s open space funds, Scenic Hudson and Ulster County to the property owner to forego development rights.
“We should never allow non-financial issues to shut down the government,” said the congressman, who faces reelection this November.
Acknowledging not everyone will be happy, trustees voted 7-2 to replace the existing building to meet the library’s future needs and address serious deficiencies in the current space. The public will likely have the ultimate say though, as a bond would be needed to fund the project.
City Comptroller John Tuey will take over the lead in the city’s negotiations with its largest employee union after Mayor Steve Noble stepped away from the bargaining table, citing a conflict of interest involving his wife and fellow city employee.
By contracting with a single trash hauler to service the entire town, local officials aim to cut costs and wear and tear on town and village roads. But some residents say they should be allowed to choose their own hauler.
