Hundreds of students at Kingston High School participated in a nationwide walkout this morning in tribute to the 17 students and staff members at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla. who lost their lives to gun violence on campus one month earlier.
Some 400 to 500 students at the Saugerties Jr./Sr. High this Wednesday participated in a nationwide walkout in the senior-high gymnasium as tribute to the 17 students and staff members in Parkland, Florida who lost their lives to gun violence on campus a month ago. They carried signs asking “Am I next?” and “Are our lives worth your guns?”

A total of seven Democratic candidates and one independent are currently vying for the opportunity to face first-term Republican John Faso of Kinderhook in the Nov. 6 general election. Collier, who will be 34 next week, said she was raised on a fifth-generation family farm near Cooperstown. She graduated magna cum laude from Cornell University with a degree in agricultural economics and took a master’s degree in that field from Michigan State University. She works for the US Agency for International Development.
The detour will affect over 13,000 motorists per day. “There’s nothing really positive about this,” said the Hurley town supervisor. “I guess once it’s done it won’t be happening again in our lifetimes.”
Short-term rentals were a big issue in last year’s campaign. Supervisor John Perry said there were discussions about altering the zoning to concentrate these rentals on Rt. 28.
Few, if any, Kingstonians know they’re supposed to be registering their bicycles.
Administrators are supporting the students. “We want to help the kids coordinate something so it’s done in a safe fashion and it’s not just mayhem, and that they also get to make their points,” said superintendent Seth Turner.
“It struck me like a dagger when Donald Trump became president,” said Abe Uchitelle of Kingston.
