Many Woodstock residents say large commercial projects are harming town’s character

In over an hour of public comments, neighbors of Woodstock Way and Mudd Club Bagel and Coffee Shop, and a host of community members, spoke about trends that have seen more and more commercial projects coming back to the ZBA and town planners, or the town’s building department, after major changes have already been made, asking that they be legalized. Many said it was harming Woodstock’s character. It was time, said one man to loud applause, that a line be drawn.

A plan to build a mixed-use residential, commercial, hotel and parking complex will receive $3.8 million of the $10 million state grant for improvements in Uptown Kingston. Other projects that received support include $2.5 million for improvements to Dietz Stadium and the Andretta pool; $1.34 million to improve access to and circulation around the tangled streets of the Uptown business district; almost a million dollars to redesign and reconfigure Schwenk Drive; $472,500 for stabilizing a historic stone building on Frog Alley; and $600,000 to fund targeted small grants and loans in the neighborhood.

Save Tillson Lake group blasts Riverkeeper’s endorsement of dam removal

The Save Tillson Lake group is fighting the Palisades Interstate Park Commission’s plan to remove an earthen dam, which would drain the man-made lake in Gardiner. The group was not happy that Riverkeeper, one of the most prominent environmental groups in the Hudson Valley, is supporting the plan. A Riverkeeper habitat manager argues that the plan would restore the natural flow of the Palmaghatt Kill, a tributary of the Wallkill River, which would benefit several species of fish and invertebrates.
