Two local New Paltz business owners who depend upon buildings for their livelihoods have been honored for beautifying their own Main Street properties. Engineer Andy Willingham and architect Allen Ross, each with offices in a refurbished Main Street home, were given Partners in Preservation awards at the January 22 New Paltz Village Board meeting in New Paltz.
Last year, a proposed concrete and steel fabrication facility was given a “negative declaration” by the Town of Kingston Planning Board, meaning it would not have a significant environmental impact and could proceed with less scrutiny. That decision was later reversed following public comments. Developers are hoping to have it reinstated.
A pedestrian was transported to a local hospital after being hit by a car in New Paltz on Wednesday, January 29 at approximately 7:54 a.m.

Within the larger goal of student achievement are areas of focus like raising the four year graduation rate above 90 percent, clarifying the journey toward graduation for all district stakeholders, defining grade level success in all content areas for all grades, ensuring educational practices are culturally sensitive, and establishing instructional strategies that are most likely to find success with the district’s students.
A little after 10 p.m. on Friday night, January 24, an unidentified 24-year-old man sustained a stab wound to the torso near the intersection of Main and North Front Streets in downtown New Paltz. He was reported in stable condition following surgery at an area hospital.
Members of the Kingston Police Department patrol and detective division immediately responded to the scene. The investigation determined that three shots were fired towards a group of people standing by a car parked alongside the back of 579 Broadway. All three bullets missed the persons and the car and struck 579 Broadway. No one was struck or injured.
“This is a tremendous effort by our community toward ensuring that these unused and expired medications don’t end up on the streets and in the wrong hands,” stated a release from the department. “Proper disposal of these medications also ensures our environment and wildlife are also being protected.”
At their January 21 meeting, school board members heard from consultant Dr. Kevin Baughman of five potential scenarios to deal with concerns.
