New Paltz marks site of same-sex marriages with rainbow crosswalk

Last week, a rainbow crosswalk was painted at the intersection of Hasbrouck and Tricor Avenues, across from Village Hall and the Peace Park, to honor the groundbreaking same-sex weddings that had been officiated nearby 14 years previously. The crosswalk will also serve as the Finish Line for the Hudson Valley Pride March coming up this Sunday, June 3.

The Williams Lake Project, first proposed in 2007, is still in the early stages of construction. Locals weighed in on plans for the next steps, which include additional infrastructure and two “neighborhoods” of residential construction on the southern half of the parcel, called Point Comfort and Kiln Village.

The rail trails in New Paltz & Highland will be linked by spring ’19; here’s the route

The route linking the Hudson Valley Rail Trail to the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail was unveiled earlier this month in New Paltz. The route will use newly constructed off-road walkways as well as existing roads. When complete next spring, bicyclists and pedestrians will be able to ride from the Walkway Over the Hudson to the village of New Paltz, and from there to Wallkill or Kingston.

One dead in Ulster fire

Police have yet to identify a 33-year-old man who died in an early morning fire in the Town of Ulster on Wednesday. According to Town of Ulster police, officers and firefighters responded to a call for a structure fire on Station Road around 5:11 a.m. Upon arrival, emergency personnel removed a 33-year-old man from the residence. He was transported to HealthAlliance Hospital’s Broadway campus, where he was pronounced dead.
