The Saugerties Central School District’s Board of Education opted for consistency in filling the role of interim superintendent last week, with Deputy Superintendent Lawrence Mautone taking on the role.
While the new wing is barely visible from Main Street and completely hidden from South Manheim Boulevard, it’s not at all small.
While the district is seemingly in a state of flux with the departure later this month of longtime Superintendent Seth Turner, school officials are touting the new school year as one which enhances the educational experience without losing anything in the process.
Students across the Kingston City School District returned to class this week, and even though summer weather seems determined to hang on just a bit longer, the start of the 2018-19 school year is here.
The practice goes back at least a generation.
New administrators at the Ulster County Catholic high school and Lake Katrine elementary school.
New Paltz Middle School will educate more than 500 students this year in grades six through eight. At the helm as principal will be Ann Sheldon, formerly the school’s assistant principal. And while the new position will bring increased responsibilities, she says, Sheldon doesn’t anticipate her daily activities will change all that much.
“These buildings were named for the original Huguenot patentees who were the first European settlers in New Paltz,” wrote college president Donald Christian. “Like other Europeans who settled in New York and other mid-Atlantic states, they enslaved Africans. The campus building names have been contentious on campus for many years, and official action to review them was long overdue.”
After watching several directors of the Woodstock Day School (WDS) come and go over the past few years, parents are looking for stability, said David Penberg, Ph.D., recently installed as the school’s new head.
Some of the possibilities being considered are severe — schools could be ordered to use federal Title I funding to lower the opt-out rates instead of other programs. Schools could also be closed or converted to charter schools under the changes.
