A half dozen campus buildings bear the names of the town’s first settlers, who owned slaves. Nearly all the speakers at a recent hearing on campus called for the buildings to be renamed, but the administration is waiting until spring to vote.
Shows will be presented Thursday, Friday and Saturday, November 8-10. Curtain time is 7:30 p.m.
Cheyenne Candlin, a senior at Saugerties High, is the Saugerties school board’s student representative for the 2018-19 school year. She says that students are becoming increasingly interested in how the world around them works. She lauds the involvement.
“Admissions professionals don’t look for reasons to reject students; they look for reasons to accept students,” says Susan Weatherly of Steps to College. “My goal is to make it a positive experience… I want you to succeed, and that means you need to know what the expectations of the college are.”
Due to the unavailability of the prospective purchaser on the originally planned day, the closing date for the sale of the Kingston City School District’s Cioni Building has been moved to Thursday, Nov. 15. School officials this week said they were fine with the delay and weren’t concerned that the deal might fall through.

The Kingston City School District last month sent students home with a letter affirming its commitment to protecting the rights of the community’s immigrant and undocumented students, philosophically aligning the district with the state’s policies.
It’s been more than a year since the Kingston City School District approved the sale of its Cioni Building headquarters in an open bidding process, and after starting work on converting the former Frank L. Meagher Elementary School into a pre-kindergarten hub and new district office, that sale could finally be imminent.
