New Paltz school budget proposal ups tax levy 4 percent

The New Paltz Central School District will ask voters to approve a $63,640,000 budget for the 2019-2020 school year. The vote will be held at the high school on Tuesday, May 21. The budget reflects a 2.98 percent increase over the current 2018-19 budget and includes a 3.98 percent tax levy increase.

Trustees of the Onteora Central School District board of education, along with parents and students, voiced their displeasure over aspects of Superintendent Victoria McLaren’s proposed budget for the upcoming school year at the April 2 board meeting at Phoenicia Elementary. Some expressed concern that that very building might eventually be placed on the chopping block, along with a popular teacher and special education services.

Saugerties school district faces revenue shortfall

The proposed $65.8-million Saugerties school district’s draft budget for the 2019-20 school year represents an increase of roughly $1.8 million, or 2.83 percent, over the current year. The proposed budget comes with a potential tax-levy increase of 2.67 percent. School officials will try to deal with a revenue shortfall of $705,423 prior to the school board meeting scheduled for next Tuesday, April 9.
