4-H Spring Fun Fest in High Falls

Saturday, April 13: The event will feature a variety of fun activities for all ages, including a chicken scratch treasure hunt, Easter egg coloring and face-painting. Festivalgoers will have the opportunity to plant flowers and vegetable seeds to take home, meet and pet baby chicks, rabbits and other fuzzy critters and learn how to raise backyard rabbits and chickens.

These mostly diurnal (daytime activity) raptors are easily seen while the trees are bare of leaves. I have consistently seen a variety of hawks, some easy to identify, others not so easy. Most are content to sit watching diligently down onto the surrounding area with great patience, waiting for that moment to pounce upon an unsuspecting creature for a meal.

Attendees can learn about camping and kayaking skills, foraging and flora identification, Lyme Disease prevention and invasive species impacts. Visitors to the L. L. Bean paracord bracelet-making station will fashion an accessory that doubles as a lifesaving device when out in the wild, and Trout Unlimited will offer ongoing fly-tying demonstrations. Face-painting and a kids’ binoculars discovery station will entertain the young ones.
