A Glyph, as defined by poet, writer, activist, musician Ed Sanders, is “a drawing that is charged with literary, emotional, historical or mythic and poetic intensity. The pastel-and-ink paintings and porcelain-and-clay sculptures of Kingston-based artist Jan Harrison defy stylistic pigeonholes, but their otherworldliness and dreamlike logic relate to Surrealism, the 1920s Paris-based movement that celebrated the unconscious as the root of the creative impulse and exulted in the element of surprise.
A highlight is always the county-fair-style competition for home-fermented concoctions, but it’s also a fun gathering for those more interested in tasting pickle products than in creating them.

It’s being touted as a serious contender for Best Picture honors at Oscar time – not Best Foreign Film, mind you, but Best Picture overall.
