The Woodstock Playhouse and Peter Yarrow both turn 80 years old this year. To celebrate such serendipity, Yarrow will return to the town that meant a great deal to him in his formative years to perform a celebratory concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 10 at the Playhouse, 103 Mill Hill Road, Woodstock.
Sunday, June 10: Among the two hundred plus pieces being auctioned off Sunday are treasures from several key local collections built up over the last half century and longer, including that of the late Sam Klein, which included a Milton Avery drawing as well as hosts of other renowned local artists, and all the local heirs of Edison’s pal George Meister, which collection includes a Babe Ruth-signed photo of a Phoenicia baseball team, as well as one of the Edison Company’s first light bulbs, which still works.
Saturday, June 9: Actors & Writers will present a staged reading of Gertrude and Claudius at the Arts Society of Kingston. Based on a novel by John Updike, the play returns the Bard’s classic characters to the stage, as Claudius and Gertrude’s forbidden passion plays out behind the back of Prince Hamlet’s father, the soon-to-be murdered king.

Saturday, June 9: The series starts with Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure. The price of the excursion is $40 per show ($35 each if you buy a package of three movies). This includes a cruise to and from the island, departing from the Floating Dock at the Beacon Institute; your choice of a short self-guided tour of the island or Local Legend Lecture when you arrive; and the film screening.

Friday-Sunday, June 15-17: Jack Johnson, Alt-J, Sturgill Simpson, George Clinton, Kurt Vile, the Decemberists and dozens more bands take to the hills. Compared to the urban polyglot favored on Roosevelt Island, the slopes of Hunter are a place where guitars still play.
Saturday-Sunday, June 16-17: More than any other established music festival, the Clearwater’s Great Hudson River Revival is directly associated with activism and the environmental movement via the imprimatur of its founder, Pete Seeger. This year’s performers include Jeff Tweedy, Rhiannon Giddens, Ani DiFranco, The Mavericks, Beth Orton and They Might Be Giants.
Thursday, June 14: Jazzstock, our region’s tireless collective of professional jazz players, promoters and preservers working now out of the Senate Garage, has made big-name jazz bookings routine. But even by their high standards, this is a huge get: Multiple-Grammy-winner Cassandra Wilson will perform with the Lonnie Plaxico group.
