There are quite the number of striking non-representational and Abstract paintings (with a capital A) that Tom Fletcher has assembled for his 23rd annual spring Fine Art Auction kicking off at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 23, at the Woodstock Community Center. Yet one work by the man the longtime art dealer, who formerly sold books, says was Woodstock’s only true Abstract Expressionist — Walter Plate — stands out.

New exhibition: When Frederic Church came to Petra as part of his 1867/68 journey to Beirut, Damascus, Jerusalem and other Middle Eastern cities, it was still a place of mystery: Only 55 years had passed since its rediscovery by Swiss geographer Johann Ludwig Burckhardt, after having been forgotten by the outside world for nearly a millennium.
Saturday, June 23: This year’s roster includes the energetic New Paltz “ska-grass” ensemble Los Thujones, the great folk/pop singer/songwriter Jude Roberts, Carole White, Mars America, Protius, Stone by Stone and Temple Roots. The site is a private yard with generous riverside frontage.
Sunday, June 24: The Rosendale Theatre presents a National Theatre Live performance of Yerma, Simon Stone’s radical reworking of García Lorca’s masterpiece about a young woman driven to the unthinkable by her desperate desire to have a child.

Friday, June 22: Kweskin’s Jug Band propelled many careers and lured topnotch players from other bands, including two members of Bill Monroe’s Bluegrass Boys: banjoist Bill Keith and fiddler Richard Greene.
