Friday-Sunday, Sept. 6-8: The event features live German bands, German food, home-baked desserts, traditional Reinheitsgebot beers, children’s entertainment, Bavarian dancers, Germania singers and Germania team soccer games.
Saturday, Aug. 17: It will be a day of family fun, relaxation, German food, music by the Joe Unger Band and dancing along the banks of the Hudson River.

The biggest barbecue gathering in this region happens every August at the Ulster County Fairgrounds, where the 15th annual Hudson Valley RibFest will be held Friday through Sunday, August 16-18. The event goes on rain or shine, and parking is plentiful and free.

Sunday, Aug. 11: In the mountainous Asturias region of Spain, where more than 200 varieties of apples are grown, traditional sidra is a staple of Basque culture. Tart, earthy and dry, sidra is meant to be drunk up quickly, before it settles and loses its sparkle. The “pour” is very important.

Both Chef Linda Soper-Kolton and Chef Sara Boan graduated from the Natural Gourmet Institute in Manhattan before landing their dream jobs at the Catskill Animal Sanctuary, tucked away between Saugerties and Lake Katrine, where they teach the vegan way of compassionate cooking. Now the dynamic duo is making the rounds at bookstores and other venues to launch a cookbook, Compassionate Cuisine: 125 Plant-Based Recipes from Our Vegan Kitchen.
One of Rosendale’s most popular downtown eateries and watering holes, the Red Brick Tavern, has been sold to new owners and is currently closed for renovations. The transfer of ownership from Billy and Michelle Loughlin to the group who run the Santa Fe restaurants in Tivoli, Woodstock and Uptown Kingston took place in late June.
