From the 1950s until 2010, Hartman was totally involved in all sports, as a player at Rondout and onto coaching and running the sports program at Wallkill, and eventually as a (mostly) friendly critic of the entire local sports scene.
Saugerties is a sports town, and not just for the kids. While youth leagues tend to rule the roost at the Cantine complex, grownups get in on the action through the Saugerties Athletic Association. In the summertime, that means softball.
Despite a gutsy performance on both ends of the pitch, Kingston Stockade FC fell to the Brooklyn Italians on Saturday, a 1-0 result on the turf at LIU Brooklyn. A first-half defensive miscue led to the Brooklyn goal, but in spite of being red-carded down to 10 men midway through the second half, Kingston threatened to come back right up until the very end.

Kingston Stockade FC had its first ever taste of US Open Cup action on Wednesday night, falling to the Long Island Rough Riders 6-3 in double overtime on a chilly night in Massapequa Park. Kingston went up 2-0 before the Rough Riders found their rhythm in the second half.
“For the sake of our self-respect, it all has to be historical, otherwise we’re just playing around with swords,” said New York Historical Fencing Association member Jeremy Wolf, who studies medieval history at Bard College.
