Events include a lecture on the library’s founding, a storytelling event with songs and crafts, a session for parents on how to encourage their children to become readers and writers, a library-themed film at the Rosendale Theatre, and more.
Too tall. Too fast. Too many good shooters. That could be the lament coming from the Highland girls basketball team that was crunched by Westchester County’s elite Irvington team 56-34 in a State opening round game on Tuesday, March 7 at Beacon High School.
New Paltz finished the season at 13-7, and with their first Section 9 championship in a decade.

Sunday, March 11: The 31st annual parade steps off from Uptown’s Kingston Plaza at 1 p.m., but the day begins with the popular two-mile Shamrock Run, anticipated to have as many as 5,000 participants this year. Registration for the run begins at 10 a.m., and the race starts at 12:50 p.m. sharp.
Friday, March 16: Using intimate testimonials from bereaved families of Sandy Hook Elementary School students and other affected residents, the film focuses on the community of Newtown, Connecticut in the aftermath of the largest mass shooting of schoolchildren in American history.
The story goes something like this: Legs Diamond, a mid-level bootlegger, somehow managed to gain control of Kington’s Barmann Brewery and ship its product via rail and truck to the various speakeasies he operated in this area and New York. More intriguing was that was Legs, after paying off willing city officials, ran subterranean beer lines along sewers to the scores of bars then operating (illegally) in the city.
It took three overtimes to do it, but the New Paltz boys won their first Section 9 title in a decade with Monday night’s uber-thrilling 78-77 win over Saugerties. The Highland girls defended their Section 9 crown with a 52-31 win over Marlboro in Sunday evening’s Class B tournament final.
The decision isn’t based on any one tragedy, but rather the general increase in suicides and overdoses, and lack of support for those affected.
Saugerties Sports Hall of Fame Inductee, Coach Rick Andreassen was overseeing children at Trade Winds Park in Coconut Creek Fla. on Wednesday, February 14, just two miles away from the deadly shooting that took place at Marjory Stoneman Douglas School that day.
