There are only a few instances in my 25 years covering New Paltz and Highland sports that a program has been as dominant as New Paltz tennis — that’s boys and girls — with the girls, like the boys last Spring, having their third straight undefeated season and winning the MHAL team title.
The 2019-20 Saugerties High School varsity girls’ basketball team may be virtually unrecognizable to fans who followed last year’s run through the postseason, which ended one win shy of a repeat performance as Section IX, Class A champions.
Saturday, November 30: The Children’s Maritime Parade will wend its way down Broadway: giant puppets, grumpus heads, star lanterns, fish, flags, boat models, stiltwalkers, long rippling banners representing the River itself, Rip Van Winkle and of course Sinterklaas. The traditional Dutch antecedent of Santa Claus will make his voyage from Kingston (representing Spain) to Rhinebeck (representing Holland) on the Hudson River’s only solar-powered boat.

The Holiday in the Village parade, set for Sunday, Dec. 8 this year, will include puppets created during an after-school enrichment program with Patrick Wadden of Arm of the Sea Theater and Jodi Adams-Hill, a Saugerties school art teacher. Saugerties junior-high students created the masks, and will help bring them to life in the parade.
