St. Nicholas may have started out, historically, as a bishop in fourth-century Asia Minor with a reputation for strategic philanthropy, somehow making his way to the Netherlands to become Amsterdam’s patron saint; but it’s arguably New Yorkers – particularly residents of the Hudson Valley – who are largely to thank for the jolly fat man’s international ubiquity.
Thursday, Nov. 23 & Saturday, Nov. 25: Thanksgiving marks the traditional beginning of the season of overindulgence in America. A neat thing about these running/walking events is that they benefit worthy local causes.
Wednesday afternoon, November 15, students, teachers and administrators at Duzine and Lenape Elementary Schools once again reached out in the spirit of the holiday season to bridge the gap between generations.

The public is invited to the Woodstock Interfaith Council’s Thanksgiving service on Monday, November 20, at 7 p.m., at the Woodstock Jewish Congregation (WJC). Leaders of local religious institutions — Buddhist, Christian, and Jewish — will offer thoughts, readings, and music on the theme of “Practicing Gratitude in Troubled Times.”
