The new playground at Seamon Park is being designed with a natural look: logs instead of metal, and a slide that follows the pitch of the land. “I wanted to have a playground that was more natural and matched the landscape,” said Heidi-Jo Brandt, who heads the village playground fund.
Such events were created in response to warnings that women not dress provocatively to avoid sexual assault, which participants feel put the onus on the victim rather than the perpetrator.
This fall, the Maya Gold Foundation is hosting a series of interactive events for adults and teens, designed to improve communications and open a community dialogue across all age groups.

The parades are just the beginning.
This Sunday will be Bike Awareness Day at Water Street Market in downtown New Paltz. The October 23 consciousness-raiser was organized in response to the injuries to Gabriela O’Shea, hit from behind by a motorist while bicycling along Route 299 on September 11. It will serve in part as a fundraiser for her care. Most of the events will be free of charge.
Scarecrows at Frog Alley features stylish scarecrows creatively crafted by members of the community, competing for prizes that include Best Design, Most Original Concept and Most Frightening Creation.
