When an adult advisor says of a group of high school students, “These kids are going to change the world,” it’s easy to write that off as hyperbole. That is, until you meet said students, the members of Highland High School’s Interact Club.
More than 3000 people packed the Village of Saugerties last Sunday for the Holiday in the Village celebration to shop, to enjoy the festive atmosphere, to take part in the annual toy giveaway run by Bob Siracusano and the Sawyer Automotive Foundation, and to watch the yearly decoration lighting of Seamon Park, as well as the Festival of Lights parade run by the Saugerties Fire Department.
Some people take their gingerbread housebuilding very seriously indeed.

Woodstock’s holiday-themed open house as well as tree-lighting and caroling in Phoenicia both take place this weekend, with more activities to come. Also, a look at local fine art, the display and sale of which always booms this time of year.
Take 131 bicycles, dozens of TVs, dolls, footballs and assorted other toys. Add 50 baseball gloves and balls. Combine that with 42 wreathes and garland. Throw in about 1500 light bulbs and add one large Christmas tree. That’s the recipe for the biggest Holiday in the Village celebration that Saugerties has ever held.
