Newburgh Illuminated Festival to feature five stages for music and dance

Saturday, June 1: The “Illuminated” part of the festival’s name references Newburgh’s status in history as the second municipality in the country wired for electricity. This will be the seventh iteration of an event that, in a relatively short time, has become a popular festival in the region, with at least 14,000 festivalgoers expected to attend.

Farmers’ market season has returned to the Hudson Valley. All the markets listed below will be open as of this posting, unless otherwise noted, with most ending in October and November. Sculpture honoring Ulster County Poorhouse residents unveiled at pool site

Long in the making, the statue is intended to symbolize all the residents of the Ulster County Poorhouse over its 148-year history: construction workers unemployed after the completion of the Catskill Aqueduct and D & H Canal, former slaves, recent immigrants, the sick and maimed, the elderly, unwed mothers, abandoned wives, babies and children, alcoholics, the mentally ill and developmentally disabled.
