Saugerties mourns the victims and service people who died on 9/11

Firefighters, police and military personnel in uniform lined up at the Cantine Veterans’ Memorial Complex Wednesday, September 11, to remember and honor the service people — police, firefighters, emergency medical technicians (EMTs) ambulance drivers and others who turned out to serve in the aftermath of the terror attack on September 11, 2001 and to mourn the victims.

“The water was colder than I thought it would be,” said Village of New Paltz Mayor Tim Rogers as he emerged dripping wet from the Dunk Tank at the Taste of New Paltz food festival last Sunday. One of nine elected officials, business-owners and other local “celebrities” who volunteered for the Dunk Tank, the mayor said that he got the plunge “at least 20 times” during his half-hour shift. “My daughter sunk me, so I’m disappointed in her.” Another who succeeded in hitting the target was five-year-old Asher Libolt, who didn’t seem to have any political axe to grind; “I dunked Mayor Rogers because I thought it would be fun,” he said, proudly wearing his “I Made a Splash” sticker.

Hey young writers! The City of Kingston and the Kingston Times are teaming up for an essay contest and the winner will have their work printed in this newspaper! The contest is open to youth ages 9-13 who live in the Kingston City School District.

Sailin’ Around Saugerties gala and auction is this Saturday

An armada of artworks will dock at the Saugerties Performing Arts Factory at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14 for the Chamber of Commerce’s 10th annual gala. Amidst libations and snacks, 36 painted and re-imagined sailboats will be sold to the highest bidder by locally acclaimed auctioneers Bob Siracusano and Ray Tucker of Sawyer Motors at the Ahoy Maties Gala.
