BioBlitz: Identifying plants and wildlife at Thorn Preserve

At last June’s BioBlitz, scientists and expert naturalists worked with local residents to identify 280 species of plants and wildlife at the Thorn Preserve in Woodstock. On July 28 and July 29, the third annual BioBlitz will again bring citizen scientists and volunteers to the 60-acre preserve for a search through meadow, forest, stream, pond, and wetlands, in an event that is free and open to the public.

On making abstract art: “What makes a difference is knowing how to draw .. to me, the difference shows in the ability for the painting to hold up over time. If you don’t know how to render an object in space in black and white, to draw the crumpled paper bag, the oval with light on it, the studies of light to dark — without this knowledge, the painting falls flat.
