Nolan, Parete square off again for county legislature

Kathy Nolan, a Democrat, is running for reelection after a term as Ulster County legislator for District 22, which includes the towns of Shandaken, Olive, Denning, and Hardenbergh. She is being challenged by John Parete, who lost the seat to Nolan in 2017, after serving six terms. Parete, also a Democrat, has received the Republican party endorsement but failed in an attempt to defeat Nolan in the Democratic primary earlier this year. Parete has not said which party he would caucus with should he win.

Shandaken Town Board race shapes up

On Election Day, Shandaken residents will vote for two of four candidates running for town board. Incumbent Peter DiSclafani is on the Democratic ticket, along with Vivian Welton, while council member Gael Alba is retiring. Kyle Steen and Ken Booth were nominated by the Republicans. The town board currently has four Democratic members, alongside Republican supervisor Rob Stanley, who is running for reelection against Democrat Brian Powers.

Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche, the abbot of Woodstock’s Tibetan monastery, Karma Triyana Dharmachakra (KTD), died on Sunday, October 6, at the age of 95 (or 96 according to the Tibetan lunar calendar.) Hailed by Tricycle, the American Buddhist magazine, as a leading figure of Tibetan Buddhism in the US, Karthar Rinpoche will be honored and supported on his death journey by seven weeks of ceremonies at Karme Ling, the retreat center in Delaware County where he made his home.
