File it under “one crime at a time:” New Paltz town police assisted State Police in capturing four of the suspects who took off after their vehicle was pulled over by State Police on the Thruway for speeding last week.
The route linking the Hudson Valley Rail Trail to the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail was unveiled earlier this month in New Paltz. The route will use newly constructed off-road walkways as well as existing roads. When complete next spring, bicyclists and pedestrians will be able to ride from the Walkway Over the Hudson to the village of New Paltz, and from there to Wallkill or Kingston.
Customers of County Waste will get a discount. Customers of different haulers who want to maintain service will need to call County Waste. The law takes effect June 1.
Manager Red Zimmerman described the venture in a prepared statement, writing that “we hope this beautifully renovated space will become a destination; a place where village residents, students and tourists alike can connect with each other. Comfortable seating, friendly staff and complimentary coffee, tea and refreshments will make Chestnut Street Connection the perfect place to put down your phone and pick up a conversation about family, children, education, the environment, faith, work or anything else.”
Right now it’s just a big, gray box, but by year’s end, it’s due to become a black box theater.
A petition presented to the New Paltz Village Board seeks “a reasonable fine” in lieu of arrests for these “minor, non-violent, victimless offenses.”
New Paltz residents who prefer their garbage picked up at home will be required to do business with County Waste as of June 1, or just bring their trash to the recycling center on Clearwater Road.
Voters resoundingly passed the New Paltz Central School District budget today, with yes votes outstripping nays by more than two to one. They also opted to turn out one of the two incumbents.
