New Paltz planners want McDonald’s to consider linking its parking lot with neighbors

Interconnection of parking areas is a planning objective at the county level, as part of an effort to design developments for people rather than their vehicles. For this particular project, a specific objective is to reduce the number of drivers attempting to make a left onto Route 299 from McDonald’s, but presumably it would also incrementally benefit the broader goal of reducing the need to depend on motor vehicles. Neither McDonald’s or adjacent property owners are very interested in the idea.

Tarkan Ceng, who took the reins of Lenape Elementary School in September 2017, is leaving that position. Board of education members accepted his resignation — effective the end of February — at their February 27 meeting, and appointed Alan Baker as interim principal, effective March 8, at a rate of $550 a day.

New Paltz to add body cameras to the force

It’s not a question of if New Paltz police officers are going to start wearing body cameras, it’s a question of how to manage the costs once they start, which could be as soon as the spring. New Paltz Police Chief Joseph Snyder told members of the Police Commission last week that right now there’s a test ongoing of a camera which integrates with the ones used in the patrol cars.
