Customers of Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corporation are reporting scammer activity this week, with bogus calls threatening to disconnect utility services if payment using a purchased prepaid card is not made immediately. Scammers’ calls appear to be from Central Hudson, using the utility’s caller ID phone number. According to Central Hudson, the utility would never request a payment in this way.
On Friday, July 12 a nationwide protest called Lights for Liberty: A Vigil to End Human Detention Camps “will bring thousands of people across the United States to detention camps across the country, into the streets and at Congressional buildings to protest the inhumane and dehumanizing conditions,” according to organizers.
State Police investigators say a 34-year-old man stole thousands in down payments as a car salesman and also stole money as a realtor. Many of the victims were Spanish speaking.

July 11-21: When the question is raised, “What was the worst song ever recorded?” among the most popular answers is an offkey lament for a lost cat titled “My Pal Foot Foot.” It appeared on the album Philosophy of the World, released in 1969 by the Shaggs. It’s said that only 1,000 copies of the LP were pressed, and that the band’s manager absconded with 900 of them. Their strange story inspired Joy Gregory and Gunnar Madsen to write an “unconventional musical” called The Shaggs: Philosophy of the World, which premiered in Los Angeles in 2003 and is being performed at Catskills Bridge Street Theatre.
