Bring together 21 three-to-five-year olds, equipment from the village of Saugerties Department of Public Works, and the men who operate the machines and you have the makings of one of the most fun learning experiences young kids can have.
Village of Saugerties trustees expressed their unhappiness with the Trump administration’s gutting of the federal Clean Water Act at last Monday’s meeting, and voted to pass a resolution supporting the Hudson River sloop Clearwater’s sail to Washington, D.C.
The Ulster County Sheriff’s In-Water Rescue Team is one of the first units called out when a boater falls into the Hudson River or into one of several local creeks that feed it. The team gets there quickly. The members know the waters they are called upon to enter.
More than 70 men and women veterans and about 100 friends, family and government officials came to salute those Saugertiesians who gave their lives in service to their country.
Only two ballfields at the Cantine Memorial Complex in Saugerties lack lights, and a group of parents of softball players are raising money to reduce that number to one. The fundraiser will be held June 2.
The arena needs a new roof. For another $250k, the town could replace the entire thing.
The village beach has new sand, improved drainage and a new parking lot.
The mayor disagreed with the statement that the village had done nothing, pointing to new signage. “You can’t fix stupid,” he said about pedestrians not paying attention to traffic.
“The Glasco Fire Department was named our Heart of Gold recipient for their patience and understanding when working with the people who live at Glasco House and Arc Apartments,” wrote Brenda Meeks, a residential director with The Arc.
One of the loudest complaints in Saugerties from tourists, shoppers and merchants has been that there is not enough parking in the village.
