The Saugerties police converted a used ambulance from the Hurley First Aid Squad into a vehicle for its Special Investigations Unit using a $10,000 state grant. “This is the type of vehicle we could have used when we investigated the murders earlier this year,” says police chief Joseph Sinagra.
“These are the only two houses in the village that pay village taxes and don’t have village services. This just doesn’t make any sense.”
A new ambulance contract, along with health and benefits increases for town employees, led to increased costs.
