New Paltz’s Ethan Palanca became the first Section 9 wrestler to win titles in both Division 2 and Division 1
It had been a long time since New Paltz won a Division title on the mat. And this one came down to Evan Jansen, the Huguenots 285-pound bruiser wrestling Wallkill’s Jackson Faider in the meet’s final match with New Paltz up a point at 39-38.
After placing six wrestlers in the Section 9 Division 1 (large schools) semifinals, New Paltz — the smallest school in Division 1 — long-time coach Ryan Pullman is looking for an even better showing this season.
What to do when you lose to graduation the number one scorer in MHAL history…and arguably the league’s best basketball player ever?

It is nothing but Peace and Love. There is “Snickers” the Yorkshire Pig, snorting up at me behind a low-mesh fence; “Delilah” the Himalayan Rabbit, her nose twitching frantically as I stick my finger toward her; “Phoenix” the All-American rooster, all prideful and irritated, strutting his stuff; “Andy” the big Morgan horse, letting me pet him through the boards of his paddock; “Elizabeth” the Nigerian dwarf goat, nose and lips against my face as I bend to pet her; “Lelo” the Shropshire sheep, unhappily set in a head-vice so she can be washed down… and “Reign” the Dutch Beltee cow.
Led By Abbie Santos, Delaney Pece, Ashley Benkert, Brooke Vos and Julia Napoli, the New Paltz SeaHawks ran their Dutchess-Ulster Swim Organization [DUSO] Championship string to seven straight and eight in the last nine years, amassing 1,512 points to second-place Zena’s 1,283 in Saturday’s title meet at the Ulster County Pool. The Seahawks, 7-0 this season, have also put together an incredible 61-straight dual-meet string.
Crazy Dan, one Dan Chisena, drummer and fledgling impresario, has become to young local musicians on the prowl for venues to play their music — unexpurgated and mostly unadorned — the kind-of second coming of Bill Graham.
The book is a compilation of stories about the history of international women’s soccer, with each chapter dedicated to a team and specific World Cups.
