Willa Butler was running before she could walk. Alright, maybe that’s a slight exaggeration, but the New Paltz High School senior, a member of the track and Nordic ski teams and a two-time cross country captain, found her passion for the sport at only seven years old.
She hopes to attend SUNY New Paltz for a major in communication disorders and may pursue a master’s in occupational therapy — an experience that she says was “a lot of fun” as a kid. “I really like to help other people, and I love working with people,” she says.
Some seniors wait anxiously until March to hear where their future will take them — Alexis Garcia, however, is already sitting pretty on a scholarship to SUNY Plattsburgh, where she will play soccer

When guidance counselor Jessica Peterson came into Jasmine Walker’s Life Prep class in freshman year, her talk about the importance of clubs prompted Walker to join no less than seven school organizations. Now a senior, Walker has narrowed her tastes, and says she couldn’t be happier.
“In school I’m really quiet and shy, but when I get up on stage I get to joke around with the audience.”
Iszy Szemcsak is often seen with a camera in her hand. The New Paltz High School senior has been snapping photos since she was ten years old, and she has never lost her passion for it.
