Friday, May 19: The Woodstock Farm Festival will kick off its season with a scrumptious dinner with a twist – the dishes will be made with what chefs across the country are calling “rescued food” – perfectly tasty, fresh vegetables, fruits, grains and more that would otherwise have gone to waste, filling landfills and speeding climate change.
Julie Evans arrived in Woodstock after an already tumultuous life. The year was 1981, and she had just left the back of a galloping horse that was about to jump over a parked car in Central Park.
His office isn’t the kind of place you associate with someone who has produced a clutch of Hollywood and independent films you know and love: The Talented Mister Ripley, Cold Mountain, The English Patient, to name but a few.
“What can you do on a half-acre? Well, you can get into beekeeping.”
His desire for an in-house pipe organ was triggered when he was a high school senior in 1969. It took most of his lifetime and nearly superhuman attention to detail to make that wish come true.
The description seems nonsensical at first. Redwoods along the Shawangunk Ridge? Driftwood redwoods, no less?
“Love for Sale: The Commercialism of the Counterculture,” will be display at the Special Exhibit Gallery at Bethel Woods through December 31.
One newspaper of the time described thriving but cholera-ridden Poughkeepsie as, “A fine place to live, with fine schools and churches and railroad accommodations, well governed but oh, how sickly.”
