In the Rosendale Town Board race, three incumbents are running uncontested: John Hughes, Ernest Klepeis and Chris Pryslopski. All three names will appear on the Democratic line, and Klepeis and Pryslopski on Republican and other lines as well.
This year, the New Paltz High School Drama Club is doing an original play that some of the students helped write. It is called, The Journey to Home. Act I tells the story of the Orphan Train, Act II tells the story of Georgia Tann and it ends with the immigration crisis and the separation of children and their parents at the border. It goes up October 24-26.
Franco Carucci is a relative newcomer to municipal government, appointed last spring to fill out the remainder of the term of Mike Reynolds when Reynolds resigned after moving outside the township. Trained as an attorney, and with many years of experience obtaining grants for municipalities as a principal of Shingebiss Associates, Laura Walls has served on the board for nearly four years; before that she was town supervisor for a single term in 2000-2001.
Saturday, Oct. 19: See the work of several indigenous artists in collaboration: singers, instrumentalists, dancers and choreographers. Witness traditional Native American dances as Louis Mofsie sings songs from the Haudenosaunee, Southwest and Plains peoples. Rob Mastrianni performs on both double flute and guitar. Matoaka Little Eagle plays indigenous instruments to accompany original songs by contemporary singer/songwriter Sherry Lee. Using a combination of traditional and modern dance, the featured piece Silent Echoes of Time, choreographed by Michael Taylor, depicts the traumatic wartime experiences and subsequent journey of healing of a Lenape Vietnam veteran, Alan Shooting Star, who dances the lead role himself.
Renee Zellweger makes the connection between Judy Garland and her audience feel visceral and real. Their love, we see, is Garland’s ultimate addiction.
Incumbent Gardiner town supervisor Marybeth Majestic is running unopposed on the Democratic line for reelection. A hazardous bridge and an overwhelmed sewer district are among the major infrastructure concerns going forward to her third term, and rewriting the zoning code to cope with the challenges to neighborhoods presented by new forms of tourist accommodations such as AirBnBs is also on the supervisor’s immediate docket.
Wednesday-Saturday, Oct. 9-12: The premise of the play was inspired by an actual classroom roleplaying game that Sheppard experienced as a child in Hanover, Pennsylvania, in which middle schoolers were divided up into Union and Confederate battalions tasked with either retrieving or freeing black dolls representing escaped slaves.
Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 12-13: Anna Librada Mazo Georges, who grew up in New Paltz, returned to the region with a mission to make flamenco accessible to the masses, and even a participatory celebration, the way it has always been in Spain.
Tuesday, Oct. 22: Kimball left city life behind and, with her new husband from New Paltz, took on the immense job of starting and running a CSA near Lake Champlain, known as Essex Farm. It currently comprises 1,100 acres and is managed with horsedrawn farm machinery rather than tractors, using no chemical pesticides or fertilizers. The goal was to supply its 150 members year-round (up to 200 now) with ingredients for three organic meals a day – not just vegetables, salad greens, herbs and a few fruits, but also grains, flour, beans, eggs, meat, dairy, honey, maple syrup, cut flowers, even soap. Kimball calls it “the world’s first full-diet CSA, as far as we know.”

Starting at $520/night.” So reads the Lazy River Resorts, LLC website’s pitch for rental of the most capacious (and costly) option for overnight accommodation at Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park Camp in Gardiner. Trouble is, the building at 46 Bevier Road lies on a separate parcel from the rest of the campgrounds and hasn’t been approved for such use by the town.
