The Saugerties Farmers’ Market opened its season on a nearly perfect day, sunny and warm but not hot. The opening day drew a large crowd, and several new vendors provided a mixture of meats, vegetables and many non-food items. The market this year has a new manager, Beth Troxell.

And a hearing on a 9000-square foot building expansion at the Catskill Animal Sanctuary on Old Stage Road was postponed indefinitely.
A Saugerties ninth grader who overdosed on a drug on April 12 in Catskill is recovering well in the hospital, police chief Joseph Sinagra reported at the village board’s regular meeting.

Taxpayers in the village will get slightly reduced property taxes this year if the value of their home is the same as last year. The total assessed value in the village increased as the result of new construction.

Saugerties Village Mayor William Murphy easily won his fifth full term in office, defeating challenger Donald Hackett, 326–154. Incumbent Village Trustees were also re-elected, with Jeannine Mayer receiving 349, Brian Martin, 330 and Jeff Helmuth, 302. Challenger Stephen Beckert was turned away, tallying 170 votes.
