Saugerties teen selected as ambassador for cancer research foundation

Four Boys and Girls Club members were commended for their local good deeds and projects with the Saugerties Community Youth Award at a recent village board meeting.
The Frisbee-loving, festival-going Saugerties native is the youngest official to hold the position in town history.
“I tasted one of her products, cucumber juice, and went bananas,” said the company’s business consultant. “I literally said, ‘Let’s bottle this stuff.’”
Striking paintings depicting religious figures of assorted faiths adorn the walls of multimedia artist Kelli Bickman’s studio on Partition Street. Those images are reprinted onto cotton clothing smattered on racks throughout the space. After gaining notoriety in private art collections worldwide, Bickman hopes to take her clothing line, 11:11 Style, national.
Saugerties’ new town board cleaned up shop at their January 3 reorganizational meeting at the Frank Greco Senior Center, designating citizens for town committees and divvying up liaison positions.
A new town council, a solar farm, projects to improve energy efficiency and cut costs, more reliable Internet and new safety measures are all in the cards for Saugerties in 2018, according to local officials.
They wanted to save money before the new federal tax bill sharply limiting deductions on state and local taxes goes into effect in 2018. According to the tax office, 489 Saugerties taxpayers made a total of $1,275,619.85 in prepayments.
Mike MacIsaac, the losing Democratic candidate in County Legislature District 1, was chosen by the town board to fill supervisor-elect Fred Costello Jr.’s vacated council seat starting in January.
A steamed Joe Sinagra, the current Saugerties police chief, says former SPD chief Greg Hulbert might lose his pistol permit. “The county has the purview of suspending that person’s firearm privileges, or even to terminate them,” said Sinagra. “As responsible gun owners, we don’t leave any guns — loaded or unloaded — in vehicles.”
