Eight Kingston High footballers and their coach have crafted their most intimate moments into monologues fit for the stage. On Friday, Feb. 9, they presented the results to an audience of 160 people at the Kingston High School auditorium.
“Dan was just part of the fabric of what Saugerties is,” said Town Supervisor Fred Costello. “He used his position as a judge and attorney to help many families, many times in their darkest times of need, and it’s been very uplifting to hear how he touched so many members of our community. It’s unfortunate that we’re losing him so soon.”
The special election will be April 24. The 102nd Assembly seat vacated by Pete Lopez includes Saugerties and ranges west to Delaware County, northwest to Ostego County and northeast to Schoharie County.
The Saugerties Youth Hockey Mustangs won three of four games, and won the Bronze Medal Game against the Tri-County Eagles with a score of 3-1. In March, the Mustangs will compete in the Tech Valley Hockey League playoffs. The girls’ hockey team, The Fillies, also earned a bronze medal.
The Saugerties police report for 2017 includes a record high in spending, earnings almost triple that of last year, and the purchase of new equipment, including eight more body cameras, a high-capacity data server to store video footage and a replacement police modem.

Thanks to the volunteer labor of locals, Saugerties’ Community Access TV’s studio will be ready to go “full digital,” using new equipment that will be installed within the next two weeks.
The media system in the Frank Greco Memorial Senior Center is being revamped for the first time since the building’s construction in 1978.
With the assistance of housing not-for-profit Rupco, the Town of Saugerties has applied for a grant through the New York Affordable Housing Corporation to help homeowners with repairs to at least 20 single-family homes in the community at no cost to the town or village.
The town’s rec chief had suggested replacing the entire building, which could have cost over a million dollars. The roof replacement, he estimates, will cost about $500,000.
