It’s official: The winter of 2015-16 was the warmest on record, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

In the lower 48 states, December-February temperatures were 36.8 degrees, 4.6 degrees above normal.

Not every region of the country had its warmest winter ever, but the Northeast – including most of the Hudson Valley – did.

The NOAA cited El Nino and global warming as causes.

The temperatures break the record set in 1999-2000. The records go back to 1895.
