At least five buses from the New Paltz area will be heading to New York City on Sunday, September 21 for what some are calling “the biggest environmental march in history.” Two years ago, Dan Guenther journeyed to Washington, DC to what was then the largest environmental rally, protesting the XL Pipeline. “It was a life-changing experience to be with 40,000 people who cared enough to make the trip,” he said.
Estimates for the upcoming New York City march are now a quarter of a million, with people coming from other states, including California.
The purpose of the rally is to convince world leaders meeting at the United Nations the following week to take action that will reverse the effects of climate change, already being felt in the US and around the world. “This may be our last chance to change the course of history,” says Guenther, asking, “Will you be on the bus?!”
Seats are still available on buses arranged by New Paltz Climate Action Coalition. Round trip fare to New York City is $25 for adults, $10-15 for students, with scholarship money available.
