Police chief Joseph Sinagra thinks kids have been responsible for a recent rash of thefts of items from unlocked cars in the Bishop’s Gate section of the town. He noted the thefts had occurred while students were off from school for Easter vacation last week.
All the thefts, Sinagra said, were from unlocked vehicles. He said residents should lock their cars even in their own driveways.
The police department will crack down on the problem by picking up kids violating the 10 p.m. curfew. A little-known law in the town and village stipulates that all youths 16 years old and younger have to be off the street by 10 p.m. unless accompanied by an adult. Parents or guardians who allow kids 16 or younger on the street after that time can be cited for endangering the welfare of a child.
The police haven’t enforced this local law, but Sinagra said “we will start to enforce it now” to stop the thefts from vehicles.
Not going to argue the law but what if its not the kids but some poor loser knowing that the kids are on break and that this would be the 1st thought that it’s the KIDS to cover up their stupidity just my opinion but its just sad that the KIDS are 1st in mind and if it was the “KIDS” 16 yrs and younger maybe its time to put a lil scare into them and start making them do a community service and payback the value of what was taking and let it be public who they are I bet it will stop then if it was the KIDS
That law has been effect since I was a kid Joe and Im 55 now. It was inforced until 1 of sons turned 16. He is now 36. Excuse they are only expressing there feelings, Should have never stopped inforcing it.
