Happy & Friends Solstice concert Dec. 17 at Woodstock Playhouse

Happy Traum

Woodstock Tradition has it that the Winter Solstice won’t happen unless Happy Traum and his Friends get together to perform a concert celebrating its arrival. And far be it for the principals herein to deny us our seasonal arrival. And thus, Byrdcliffe presents the Winter Solstice 2016, a benefit concert for the Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild with Happy Traum & Friends, at 8 p.m. Saturday, December 17 at the Woodstock Playhouse, 103 Mill Hill Road.

The lineup this year has the great Nashville songwriter Pat Alger, who was an original member of the Woodstock Mountains Revue; Cindy Cashdollar, queen of the slide guitar; Multi-instrumentalist, singer Zach Djanikian; longtime Solstice favorites Paul Rishell & Annie Raines; songwriter, guitarist Eugene Ruffolo; and, as always, the extraordinary John Sebastian.

Happy dedicates each of these shows to his late brother, Artie, a beloved Woodstock artist in his own right, gone eight years now.

The show itself consists of great songs, much fine picking and the soul of Americana acoustic music.
