A 35-year-old Saugerties man is behind bars after police say he attacked a man in his apartment complex with a machete, causing multiple cuts to the victim’s arms and legs and partially amputating three fingers.
Police received the call at 9:21 p.m. last night, Oct. 30, reporting an attack with a machete at 1 Clermont St., Saugerties. Officers found a male 25-year-old victim the victim a 25-year-old male bleeding profusely, having suffered multiple lacerations to his arms and legs, in addition to three partially amputated fingers. According to police, witnesses said that the man had been attacked by another individual who was wielding a machete, identified as 35-year-old Anthony Cunningham, a tenant from the same apartment building. According to witnesses, Cunningham fled the scene prior to the arrival of police. Saugerties Police, with the assistance from the New York State Police and Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, conducted a search within the village of Saugerties attempting to locate Cunningham. Approximately 90 minutes after the incident occurred, a Saugerties Police K9 Unit located Cunningham on West Bridge Street and took him into custody.
The victim was treated at the scene by paramedics from DIAZ Ambulance and transported to the Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital, Westchester Medical Center Campus in Poughkeepsie for treatment of his injuries, which were severe. The victim was listed in stable condition. Cunningham was processed at Saugerties Police Headquarters on the felonies of burglary in the first degree, assault in the first degree and the misdemeanor of criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree. Cunningham was arraigned in the Village of Saugerties Justice Court and remanded to the Ulster County Jail in Lieu of $100,00 cash bail / $250,000 bond.

Funny You brought it up, because Saugerties should and hopefully will join the movement into sanctuary status. These subjects are not a joke, they are peoples freedom, their rights, and their lives.
What does this incident have to do with “Sanctuary Cities” and immigration? I do not see any connection at all. The perp’s name was Cunningham, that does not sound like a name usually associated with immigrants, in our times, and the article makes no claims of immigration status. So where did Sanctuary City come into play? I do not get it. Oh, unless you are racially profiling one specific ethnicity, and are a bigot, lumping all immigrants as criminals, and rapists, or rather, lumping all criminals as immigrants. Sounds like someone drinking the kool-aid, that trump made, and are blinded by bigotry. One final question; Do you truly believe that Saugerties, was and is a white middle class, and upper middle class town, that is meant for only certain races of people, and all immigrant peoples specifically those of darker skinned and Hispanic races, are nothing more than criminals, rapists, and of a lower order of human being, and should “KEEP OUT”? Is that what you really believe? Okay, two questions then, if that is what you do believe, than, you are the poison in Saugerties that needs too change, or leave, as to make us, and where we live, better.
