Police said a car crash this morning in Glasco following a failure to stop at a stop sign left one car on its side but caused no serious injuries to the either driver or the passengers, including a one-year-old child.
At 6:29 a.m. this morning, Saugerties Police responded to State Route 32 at the intersection of Glasco Turnpike in Glasco for a reported motor vehicle crash involving two vehicles. Investigation by police concluded that 21-year-old Jenna N. Smith was operating a 2016 Toyota Corolla on Glasco Turnpike when she failed to stop for a stop sign and yield to oncoming traffic on State Route 32.
Smith’s vehicle collided with a 2005 Toyota Prius, operated by 26-year-old Ayla Rector. Smith’s vehicle rolled onto its side as a result of the crash. Smith and an adult passenger received minor injuries and were treated at the scene by paramedic from Diaz Ambulance and then transported to the Health Alliance Hospital Broadway Campus in Kingston along with a third passenger, a one-year-old child, who was not injured in the crash.
Rector, sustained minor injuries and was transported by private vehicle to a health-care provider for followup care. As a result of the crash, Smith is being charged with failure to stop at a stop sign, a violation, in addition to the misdemeanor of aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree, for operating a motor vehicle while having a suspended driver’s license.
I live on this corner and was awoken by this crash at 6:20 am. There were screams of “there’s a baby in the car” which lessened after the baby was rescued and the man in the car fainted. The real story here is that there are accidents on this corner at least once per month! I can’t count the amount of accidents I’ve witnessed in just two years living here. Still there is no light!! This is undoubtedly one of the most dangerous intersections in the county and no one is doing ANYTHING about it. Simply cleaning up the mess and waiting for the next one doesn’t work. Perhaps people will start paying attention when the death toll mounts??? Atrocious. Lawmakers need to start paying attention.
Over the years, 3 of by school buses have been T-bone at this corner (luckily children have only received minor injuries). I’ve approached local and county officials who have said that NY State will not put a light or 4 way stop until ‘more serious’ accidents and a body count..yes a body count, occur. Two years ago, tragically there was a death. What are they waiting for? Town, County, and State are implicit.
