Saugerties Police will distribute overdose prevention kits and teach attendees how to use them Feb. 26 at the Senior Center, 207 Market St., from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
First-respondors and anyone over the age of 16 who may be likely to witness an opiate overdose should attend. All participants will receive a free Naloxone rescue kit.
The session’s objectives are as follows:
- to increase understanding and awareness of fatal overdoses related to opioids and the impact within the community
- to identify risk factors for an overdose
- to be able to recognize an overdose
- to be able to identify the five essential steps for first responders as outlined in the SAMHSA Opioid Overdose Prevention Toolkit in the event of an overdose
- to be able to correctly use Naloxone to save lives
