A backpack apparently belonging to former Saugerties Police Chief Gregory M. Hulbert containing two loaded handguns was reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle on Latham Circle in the Village of Saugerties.
The theft is one of a reported ten vehicle larcenies that have occurred in the past two days during the overnight hours in the Village of Saugerties, that are being investigated by the Saugerties Police Department. According to a release from the department, the vehicles were entered during overnight hours and in all ten cases the vehicles were not locked.
The backpack with the handguns also contained the owner’s retired police ID Card in the name of Chief Gregory M. Hulbert, a retired Chief’s Badge from the Saugerties Police Department, in addition to the owner’s Security ID and Pistol Permit. One of the handguns taken was a .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun and the other a .38 caliber revolver. Both weapons were loaded and there was additional ammunition for both weapons in the backpack.
The Saugerties Police Department Detective Division is asking for assistance from the public in identifying the individual(s) responsible for these larcenies. More importantly, according to the release, is getting the firearms off the street. Anyone with information pertaining to any of these larcenies or the stolen handguns is asked to contact the Saugerties Police Department at 845-246-9800. All calls will be kept confidential.
Is the police chief getting charged with crime? He had 2 loaded guns in a bag instead unloaded and in a locked guncase. If he doesn’t get a charge then the Village of Saugerties is corrupt.
Please tell me where in New York state law a citizen who is licensed to carry a gun is required to keep it on their property unloaded and in a locked gun case? His decision to keep it in an unlocked car is stupid and a judge will review his carry privilege but it is not a crime.
somebody’s got some splaining to do.
Very irresponsible behavior. Should be charged and punished especially if vehicle was unlocked.
firearms unattended in an unlocked vehicle. stupid much?
THIS IS NOT GOOD. VERY IRRESPONSIBLE ACTION TO LEAVE NOT ATTENDED.
WHERE IS THE POLICE DASH VIDEO CAMERA?
