The inauguration of Donald J. Trump has sparked protests in Washington and across the nation, leading to a lively debate about whether it’s appropriate to demonstrate against an incoming president before he’s taken any action. While many say such demonstrations represent a healthy exercise of first amendment rights, others say the protests are acts of divisiveness in a time when the nation should be coming together to support the new president. And, when the dialogue is between a Trump supporter and Obama supporter, the former will often point to the latter’s ongoing complaint that Republicans were dedicated to obstructing and delegitimizing Obama from the beginning, so treating Trump the same way would be hypocritical.

The left should absolutely give Trump a chance. If he fails, the nation fails. If his ideas are really so bad, his program will be rebuked at the ballot box in the next election.

It’s all sour grapes, but who cares! I don’t care who protests, yells, kicks the sand, or whatever. Trump is now your President. If he fails, we all fail. It’s best to do the right thing and support the man. So many are waiting to say I told you so, only they don’t realize to prove they’re right will have huge consequences. Keep protesting, I’ll give him some time before I react!
