When are the 2016 presidential debates?

All debates will take place from 9-10:30 p.m. and air on C-SPAN, ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, Fox News, CNN and MSNBC. Several of those channels have streamed past debates online; check back for links as they become available.

Debate 1

Date: Monday, Sept. 26

Moderator: Lester Holt of NBC News

Format: Six 15-minute segments, each on a topic selected by the moderator. The moderator will ask the question, give each candidate two minutes to respond, then let the candidates respond to one another. The moderator will use the balance of time to further explore the issue.

Location: Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY

 

Debate 2 (vice presidential debate)

Date: Tuesday, Oct. 4

Moderator: Elaine Quijano of CBS News

Format: Nine 10-minute segments, each on a topic selected by the moderator. The moderator will ask the question, give each candidate two minutes to respond,  then use the balance of time to further explore the issue.

Location: Longwood University, Farmville, VA

 

Debate 3

Date: Sunday, Oct. 9

Moderator: Martha Raddatz (ABC) & Anderson Cooper (CNN)

Format: Town Hall. Half the questions will be asked by uncommitted voters, half by the moderators.

Location: Washington University, St. Louis, MO

 

Debate 4

Date: Wednesday, Oct. 19

Moderator: Chris Wallace of Fox News

Format: Same as first
