Do we really need to tell you who Smokey Robinson is and why he matters? Thought not. The Motown legend and American institution once called “America’s greatest living poet” by no less an authority than Bob Dylan is still at it, still smooth as silk and deceptively deep.
Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Robinson founded the Miracles while still in high school. The group was Berry Gordy’s first vocal group, and it was at Robinson’s suggestion that Gordy started the Motown Record dynasty.
Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Smokey Robinson brings four decades of hits to the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts on Saturday, August 20 at 7 p.m. for a Pavilion-only show.
